CDC Announces New Goals
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Dr.
Julie Gerberding recently announced new goals that will allow the
agency to have greater impact on the health of people around the
world. CDC will focus its priorities and resources under two main
goals: (1) preparedness and (2) health promotion and prevention of
disease, injury, and disability.
The preparedness goal will ensure that people in all communities
will be protected from infectious, environmental, and terrorist
threats. The goal of health promotion and disease, injury, and
disability prevention will help people achieve their optimal
lifespan with the best possible quality of health in every stage of
life.
The federal public health agency has also established new
coordinating centers and named directors of each. See
http://www.cdc.gov for more
information.
