Educator of the Year – Myssi Goldsmith | NIC – 50th Anniversary

Milady Awards Educator of the Year at 11th Annual CEA Convention – Myssi Goldsmith is recognized for her dedication to cosmetology education.

Thomson Delmar Learning, a leader in educational resources for lifelong learning and part of The Thomson Corporation, announces that Cosmetology Educators of America (CEA) and Milady, an imprint of Thomson Delmar Learning, named Myssi Goldsmith, an educator at The Hair Design School, as the Nicholas F. Cimaglia Educator of the Year at the 11th annual CEA convention in Las Vegas, NV, recently.

Myssi Goldsmith, Cosmetology and Esthetics educator at The Hair Design School in Louisville, Kentucky, became the first instructor to obtain a dual license in the state. With over 18 years as a cosmetology instructor, Ms. Goldsmith is constantly seeking to expand her curriculum and offer the most up-to-date education available.

Besides teaching at The Hair Design School, Myssi serves as President of Louisville Affiliate of the National Cosmetology Association (NCA), is on the NCA Board of Directors, became one of the American’s Educators of NCA, and is a member of Hair America.

With visits to local salons and spas and hours of hands-on work in the clinic area, her students are exposed to the many aspects of a cosmetology career.By doing so, she provides her students with the tools necessary to receive licensure and begin working immediately at one of the many salons and spas in need of their services.

Myssi feels so grateful for being named the 2005 Educator of the Year. Just the fact that she was nominated was an honor for her. She said “When I received the call from Milady’s President, Dawn Gerrain, telling me that I had been chosen, I was walking on air for…well, I still am. I just can’t believe that I could get an award of this magnitude for just doing what I love.”

Her advice to those who want to follow in her footsteps:“always be open to learning something new, so you can pass it along to your students, and have lots of fun doing it!”

The Educator of the Year Award is given annually to one educator who exhibited the most significant contribution toward upgrading professional standards of educational excellence, particularly within the area of student involvement, during the past year. It is co-sponsored by CEA and Milady, an imprint of Thomson Delmar Learning.

NIC – 50th Anniversary

Milady attended National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., August 26 – 29, 2005, marking the 50th anniversary of this organization.  The purpose of the conference is to share amongst the various State Boards of Cosmetology the most current ideas relative to the administration of Cosmetology license laws and examinations.  Topics covered included tattooing, body piercing, national endorsement, airbrush tanning, and pedicure sanitation.  Milady was honored to sponsor breakfast for conference attendees and to share the newest products and initiatives to partner with the cosmetology industry.  Each attendee received a complimentary copy of the newly released Milady’s Standard Professional Barbering.  Letha Barnes, Director of Milady’s Career Institute, spoke to the delegation regarding distance learning and its implications on future cosmetology education.  The 2006 Annual Conference will be held in Portland, ME.
