Coalition of Esthetic and Related Associations (NCEA) and
the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) joined
together to offer esthetician students the First Esthetician
Scholarship program through Access to Cosmetology Schools
(ACE), a division of AACS. Milady, a recognized name in Cosmetology,
sponsored one of four yearly Esthetician Scholarships that
are awarded to four esthetician students who attend an AACS
member school. This scholarship is awarded to those students
that demonstrate a strong work ethic, are dedicated to their
course of study, and will benefit from the financial assistance.
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must have
completed at least half of their education and maintained
at least an 80% attendance rate and grade point average. Candidates
must write a 500-word essay describing their financial need
and why they deserve the Esthetician Scholarship.
Wendy
Mapstone, The Director of Marketing for Milady, presented
Lindsay Roland, a 20 year old student attending Xenon International
School of Hair Design in Omaha, Nebraska, with the Esthetician
Scholarship at this year's Third Annual Society of Dermatology
SkinCare Specialists conference in New Orleans.
Ms. Roland
always dreamed about working in spa where she could help people
relax and escape from the pressures of everyday life. But,
due to recent financial set-backs, her family had to make
big sacrifices so Lindsay could pursue her dream of being
an Esthetician. Ms. Roland’s misfortunes seemed to be
changing when her instructor handed her an application for
the Esthetician Scholarship, and she knew she couldn’t
pass up this opportunity.
Ms. Roland’s
application letter demonstrated an extraordinary amount of
optimism and determination toward reaching her career goal
of becoming an esthetician; she wrote:
“My path to an Esthetics career
has been filled with bumps, potholes, detours, and roadblocks.
The sign often read “yield” and “do not
enter;” the path has not always been clear, but I’ve
kept my eyes open and focused on the road ahead. It takes
perseverance, drive, and passion to rise above difficulties
and a long-term goal always serves as a light at the end
of the tunnel. My goal is simple: Becoming an Esthetician
and using my training to help improve the well-being of
my clients.”
In addition
to the scholarship, Ms. Roland and her mother received an
all expense paid trip to New Orleans to attend the Society
of Dermatology SkinCare Specialists meeting, a pass to
attend any event at the three-day conference, and a framed
certificate from the NCEA.
