Milady Gives Back!

THE COSMETOLOGY INDUSTRY WANTS MORE PROFESSIONALS!
Beauty is big business. Specialty salons are opening everywhere -- from malls to Main Street. There are 1.7 million professional salon employees, which outnumber the 1.1 million lawyers in America. And the industry says it now needs more new professionals than it can supply. Licensing requirements vary by state, but can be completed in as little as a few months of intensive training for hair stylists, nail technicians, aestheticians and more. Children's Miracle Network
On February 13, 2008, International Academy and Great Clips worked together to raise over $22,000.00 this year for the Children's Miracle Network. The funds derived from Cut-a-Thons, chair massages, car washes, a silent auction and donations. Milady was proud to contribute to this worthy effort. Children's Miracle Network hospitals help 17 million children each year. To donate or learn more click here

Legends Ball
Milady sponsored a table at the Legends Ball to honor Leo Passage and Paula Kent Meehan for their lifetime of outstanding contributions to the highest standards of the professional salon industry. Learn More

Creating a Stellar Staff – Working Toward a Common Goal! By Alejandra Crissafuli

As a life coach and business trainer I often hear from my clients just how much they feel held hostage in their business. Like they just cant get out of always being the one to do all the work, the feeling of working for the team not the team working together toward a common goal. Have you ever felt like a hostage in your business?
If you have, you aren't alone. It is quite common to feel like you are working for your employees rather than everyone working together toward a common vision. Too many salon owners have sacrificed their own business in simply doing what everyone else does and giving too much because they think that's the only way to make it work. Why do we do this? Think about it, in beauty school was there no "Synergy Team Building 101". But know this—all businesses can create, grow and maintain a synergistic flow that will have a stellar team working together in harmony. There are 3 simple ways that will allow you to do this.

Career Institute Teaching Tips

Letha Barnes

Business Fundamentals for the Student Salon By Lisha Barnes, Academic Development Manager, Milady
The ultimate success of any school in the field of cosmetology may relate to how successfully the student salon is managed and supervised. Schools that provide training for professionals within the beauty and image industry have a distinct advantage in than our students receive a significant amount of their career training in a "hands-on" learning environment that is very similar to that of the actual salons and clinics in which they will become employed. With their "real-world" training experience, graduates make the transition from school to work far more easily than those students who have not had the same opportunity.

The salon learning center provides the venue for students to learn and practice not only technical skills but also allows them to develop their soft skills in communication, business, retailing, problem solving, conflict resolution and more.

Beauty Tip

After the winter, dead skin cells may leave your face looking dull and your hair crying for moisture! Look your best with these tips:

For your face

Restore that health glow by using a peeling or sloughing mask to bring back the glow. Try a steam treatment or a nice facial.
For your Hair
Use a deep conditioner at least once a week to lock in moisture. Concentrate especially on the ends, where hair is the most dry. You may even want to trim a few inches to give your hair a nice healthy lift.
