Over 50% of all salons in the region hit by Hurricane Katrina have been completely destroyed. The Beauty Industry wants to help them rebuild.

The Esthetician of the Future
Esthetics is a growing field and is attracting nurses, teachers and even physicians to become skin care specialists. The scope of esthetics is becoming broader and now includes anti-aging and general wellness. These two areas alone are sufficient to drive esthetics into a more demanding discipline. To be able to understand and provide services in these areas will require a considerable amount of both new knowledge and skills. And that means more education. How much education? If we use the relatively new profession of the Physician’s Assistant as our model we can see what is in the future for estheticians.

Achieving Success with Adult Learners
As more mature adults pursue career changes, educators must be ready!

As more and more mature adults decide to make a career move and re-enter the educational environment, educators must have a firm understanding of who they are and what they want to accomplish. Clearly, more and more sophisticated learners are enrolling in our educational programs, especially within the specialty fields, such as esthetics and massage therapy. To help us better prepare for this special learner, it might help to take a look at how these learners compare to younger learners.

Don't forget the sunscreen!

Even though the climate is changing and temperatures are dropping, skin is still susceptible to the sun’s damaging rays. Remind your clients to apply sunscreen to their faces everyday. Skiers and snow-shovelers should be even more careful; the UV rays in the glare reflecting off the snow can age the skin faster than you may think.

“Our school district has been using Milady for our cosmetology program forever. Last year we made one change to our curriculum by adding MiladyOnline. We instantly saw an increase in our students’ pass rates at State Boards. Giving them the chance to practice taking their written exam in the same format as their Licensure Exam provides them with a clear advantage. With the administrative feature, instructors can determine which areas of study students need additional training in.
I only wish we had subscribed to this program sooner!”
